Swimming
I got in a few months ago, into the pool. I hadnt been in since I was in college with the Wright State swim team. I never got the chance to have my last swim meet. My freshman year in college, I swam in an expedition heat in my last meet but I knew if I would improve the next year, I would swim in our championship meet. It was early the following year with a twist of fate that I became a diver. I never swam again competitively, I never got my last swim meet. So my cousin, Mike and I decided to train for a triathalon and soon after getting back in the water, we realized our love for swimming and decided to join a Master's team. We were practicing on our own but we paid the fee to compete with Masters swimmers. A week before the first meet, I pulled my back at work. It took me out of running, out of swimming and benched me for a good two months. When I was ready to get back in, I joined a team called Up and Running. I jumped in with two girls in the fast lane. One swam college before but back in '88. She was kicking my butt. It felt like college again, with swimmers, who encouraged me without even knowing it. I loved it. I got out of the pool exhausted but it felt awesome. Today, when I tried to jump in, the coach Paul told me to get into the next lane, a bit slower. I jumped in and didnt know what to say but finally I looked up and said Paul, Im up for the challenge, even if I have to sit out one or two 50's, I still want to do it. He said, If youre up for it, Go for it. So I changed lanes and swam with two college girls. It was hard. Not as challenging as the day before. I was a little bit more in shape, I guess. I got out with energy and was proud of what I had accomplished. 2700 yards in one hour...felt great. Next week, Im not sure I can swim with them, but I will swim. The love for swimming is coming back, and its exciting.
